Lauren Gleason in The Uncertainty Principle |
We frequently hold auditions and post all audition notices to this website.
However, we do not audition for all projects. If you'd like to be considered for our developmental workshop series (Scene Herd Uddered) or our ten-minute festival, you should send a headshot, resume, and a cover letter, with answers to the three questions below, to The Milk Can Theatre Company (attn: Lorraine Cink) at 520 8th Avenue, suite 330 • NYC 10018.
- What is the last show you were involved with? How was the experience?
- What is your greatest strength as an actor?
- What is your greatest weakness as an actor?

We want to work with intelligent, professional, and highly creative individuals.
Playwrights: We do not accept script submissions, but if you have a play being produced (reading, workshop or full production) in New York City, please send us a letter of inquiry and a postcard. We love to see new work and discover talented playwrights whom we are interested in working with in the future.
Directors: We are always on the lookout for talented directors. If you're directing something in New York City, send us a postcard and your resume, and let us know what kind of projects you're interested in. Please indicate whether you're interested in directing or assistant directing. Designers: Whether you're a sound, set, lighting or cosutme designer, we're happy to hear from you. If you've got a show running in New York City, send us a postcard and your resume, along with a cover letter that discusses your working process.
Stage Managers: We like opinionated stage managers. Send us your resume and a cover letter which says a little something about the kind of plays you're interested in working on. If you've never stage managed, but want to learn, we're always looking for Assistant Stage Managers, and we'll teach you along the way. Send us a resume and a cover letter which indicates why you're interested in learning about stage management. |

We are always on the lookout for people who are enthusiastic and energetic.
Come to us with your own ideas on how to help, or see if one of the jobs listed below interests you...
Scene Herd Uddered Workshop Managers: Seeking intelligent, organized and opinionated individuals. If you enjoy the new play process -- or just want to learn more about it -- consider volunteering to manage a Scene Herd Uddered workshop.
Builders, Painters, Sewers, Shoppers: Like to get dirty? Adore using power tools? Know how to shop? How to sew? Want to learn? Volunteer to help us build and paint our set, sew up costumes, or shop for costume and prop pieces. We're grateful for your help whether it's for two hours or twenty hours.
Interns: Whether you're interested in acting, lighting, set, sound, directing, arts managment, or production, we have room for you. If you need an internship to fulfill a school requirement, if you're just new to New York City, or if you just don't have a lot of professional experience, let us know what you'd like to learn about. Our internship program is individually tailored to each candidate with many interns acting as Production Assistants, who get to participate in the audition and rehearsal process, as well as the adminstrative side of things. It's a great way to learn about producing, stage management, directing, and acting.
Experts: Do you have an area of expertise that you'd like to offer? Are you a party planner, lawyer, restaurant owner, accountant, or anything in between? Let us know how you'd like to help. |
FRIENDS OF THE CAN |
Brand New Program For Volunteers |
Here at the Milk Can, we are starting up a brand new program for volunteers. Are you a fan of our mission statement? A fan of our work? A fan of our people? Would you like to help us out when we're in need? We're looking for a few good men and women to join our "Friends of the Can" network. The concept is pretty simple. Whenever we need help, we'll put out a call to the "Friends of the Can." The needs are as varied as:
- Prop Shopping
- Helping with Mailings
- Painting and Building
- Internet Research
- Running the Light Board
- Grant Writing
- Production Assistance
- Script Reading
- And so many more fun and important tasks...
The commitment is very straightforward. You are placed on an e-mail list, and anytime we need to send up the bat signal, we'll e-mail you. If you can help, great. If not, we'll get you the next time. You'll receive recognition in all of our programs, and on this website. It's a great way to make friends while feeling good about helping our theatre company grow. Come and join our extended family as a "Friend of the Can."
